Sailing Adult Sailing Program Boating Courses Cruising Club Sailing Regattas Vessel Safety Checks Youth Sailing Program |
The basic sailing program is a 16-hour course,
comprised of four 4-hour lessons. Sailing lessons
are taught in the waters off Waikiki, Diamond Head,
and Hawaii Kai. The following basic to advanced
sailing topics are covered: seamanship,
terminology, knots, rules of the road, navigation, and
yacht maintenance.
Individualized lessons, tailored to people with flexible schedules, are also offered. These can prepare
participants for cruising, for competitive racing, or for anything in between and are offered on an
as-requested basis.
The training is usually provided on a Farr 727 design 25-foot sloop, which is a performance-oriented and
seaworthy vessel. Large groups of students practice on J-24 design 24-foot sloops, which are easy to handle
and are often used for class boat racing.
The instruction fee is $25 per hour. For groups of participants who are not Waikiki Yacht Club members there
is a 10% discount. Club members can take advantage of a 25% group discount.
Captain Jeff Lansdown, holding a U.S. Coast Guard Master 100-Ton License, is the sailing instructor.
