No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported
to any enforcement agency. A decal is awarded for display on vessels
passing the check.
Items reviewed include: vessel registration or documentation; personal
flotation devices; visual and audible distress signals; fire extinguishers; safety requirements for
gasoline-powered boats; navigation lights; pollution and trash placards; proper installation of marine
sanitation devices; navigation rules and state requirements; overall vessel condition; safe electrical and fuel
systems; and safe galley and heating systems.
